Atom Player Transitional Plan

@ McLaren Arena

Aug. 21, 2017 04:15 PM to Aug. 24, 2017 06:15 PM

Attention all 2017-18 Registered PMHA Atom parents & players,

As you know, PMHA and BC Hockey have gone to half-ice or cross-ice hockey for all divisions lower than Atom.  In an effort to assist players with the transition from half-ice or cross-ice to full-ice games, PMHA will be offering (3) ice times to all Atom-aged players that would like to participate.

Note: There is no additional charge for these ice times.  Depending on interest, priority will be given to first-year atom players.  With that being said, the inclusion of 2nd year players can provide leadership, a positive example and ice time early in the year for those players.

The goal of the Atom Transitional Plan (ATP) is to ensure that players entering their first year of Atom are equipped with the skills and knowledge to adapt to a full ice surface.

These include:

• Stoppage/Start of Play - Foundations of Full Ice Gameplay

• Spatial Awareness - Defensive and Offensive Zone Concepts

• Rule Adjustment - Offside and Icing

• Maintaining Game Flow - Changing on the Fly

Various drills will be performed with these goals in mind as well as controlled scrimmages.

The 3 sessions will be led by PMHA Coach Coordinator Rod Kenney, along with other PMHA volunteer coaches.
